Robyn Not Again

In Progress or is it Process?
The first version of this painting was titled Robyn Not, so naturally this one is Robyn Not Again!

A Work Day

My Studio Today
I got to a place where I could work on things again. For whatever reason, working on art is like a steam locomotive. It spins its wheels on the tracks at first, then starts slowly, groaning, and gradually it gets moving faster and chugs along merrily. Toot toot!

All But Signed

Christina's Crown
Yay! The Clear Tar Gel is completely CLEAR!!! I love this piece, and I want to do more of this.

Coating Christina

Clear Tar Gel Application
I am hopeful that this will come out looking fantabulous, but I never know for sure. It should dry perfectly clear, but it got caught in the curlicues so it may be hazy around them. That might be gorbilious, or nice.

Christina's Crown Update

No sooner did I post the photo of Christina's Crown than I had the inspiration to put a pattern into the background. Hehe, that is the way it works sometimes!

Kinda Like It

Christina's Crown still in Progress

OK I Smeared It All Up

For whatever reason, I disliked the way this painting looked, so I took a paper towel and smeared the paint around. I like it better, but it needs something.

Too Subtle for Me ...

Christina's Crown Mostly Dry
Apparently I did not add enough liquid Ultramarine Blue to my gel/water mixture. It is nice and glassy and transparent, but barely has a color shift from the background. I liked the light blue a lot, so maybe I will go over this with Iridescent Pearl liquid acrylic.

Another Play Day!

Base Texture with Orange Yellow

Drips and Swirls, Plus Alcohol
The light molding paste dried overnight, and I put a dilute orange yellow on it to begin with; then I dripped and splattered liquid acrylic in Ultramarine Violet and Green Gold onto the surface. The dots were too much the same size, so I dripped alcohol over them to see if they would run. Then I swirled the same colors to give it more than a polka-dot look.

Christina's Crown

Wet Glossy Glass Blue
Tomorrow this should be shiny glassy and blue. The white will turn clear. What I do next is a mystery to me, but I like it so far.

Playing to Get Going

Plastic Wrap Texture (will be clear)

Light Molding Paste Texture (will remain white)

Soft Gel Gloss Squiggles (will remain colors)

Life kinda interrupted my studio work, so I am rebooting with experiments. I have lots of reference books that suggest different approaches. Today I wanted texture. I took two unfinished landscapes and applied two different textures to them, and then I took a gessoed wood panel and added light molding paste to it and did various things to make it interesting to my eye. These may or may not "go anywhere", but at least I spent time in the studio and experimented a bit.

There's Something Happening Here ...

Masked Unmasked!
And yes, "What it is ain't exactly clear..." I put a layer of Soft Gel (gloss) on this painting yesterday, brushing it horizontally so that it is a clear shiny layer that I will use to create a water image overlay. Overnight it dried and lo and behold, the image has changed! This is truly a happy accident.

Here is how it went:

I did a Photo Booth image of myself with a scarf around my head and over my mouth and part of my nose. I cut out the area around the eyes and collaged it onto a canvas that was previously painted with dark blue, leaving the center area unpainted. Then I painted over the entire area with blue-green, leaving the eye area uncovered. I put in the head and ear, eyebrows and third eye in red-orange. Then I wiped the blue-green off the white rippling area to the left, so that it looks like sound going into my ear. I used that image to experiment in Photoshop, and decided to put on a layer of glossy gel to float the paint that will represent water. Now the edges of the collaged inkjet print came up to the surface, in a sort of pentimento effect. I really like it. I had noticed how the rectangle looked something like a mask, but very subtle. Now it is there! Magical things happen in the painting process.

Congelation Idea

Yoga is the Stilling of Whirlpools in the Mind
I may or may not be able to do this in the physical painting, but I like it in its PhotoShop version anyway and wanted to share it with you. The painting will go its own way, as it is a different medium.

Try Try Again ...

Congelation II
I am beginning to contemplate ... "WHAT is congealed in the alchemical process of Congelation?"

Nearly Expressing the Meaning

The red-orange vibration lines are too thin, but the emanating energy is less than that being received and that activated in the chakras.

This painting was blue, yellow and such a deep green that it was basically a silhouette of the trees, and today I am reviewing old paintings to decide yea or nay ... keep them as is, or paint over them. Apparently I decided to work on this one, and I like the results so far.

old version

Lady with an Ermine

Lady with an Ermine after Leonardo da Vinci
This is another oddball painting that does not fit into any of my series. I planned to do more of these modern-hued copies of masterworks, but lost interest. Pfft. I am like that sometimes.

No One Else Likes This Painting

But I like it!

At the Carnival - Finished?

At the Carnival
This may be finished. I always have to gaze at a piece for a long time to know for certain.
