Ten Best American Movies .... maybe ...

In the International Herald Tribune there was a listing (from Stanley Fish) of the ten best American movies of all time: You decide if they would be your picks as well:

1. The Best Years of Our Lives (OH YEAH)
2. Sunset Blvd. (DEFINITELY)
3. Double Indemnity (PRETTY DARN GOOD, YES)
4. Shane (AWWW)
5. Red River (have not seen it!)
6. Vertigo (WELL, NOT MY HITCHCOCK FAVE, BUT GOOD)
7. Raging Bull (DEFINITELY UP THERE)
8. Groundhog Day (LOVED IT BUT THERE COULD BE OTHERS ABOVE IT)
9. Meet Me in St. Louis (NO WAY)
10. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (ONE OF THE BEST)

I suppose I take making lists too seriously when they are probably intended to be subjective and frivolous. Raging Bull, yes. There are so many I can't think of them all, though.
I have low tolerance for musicals but liked West Side Story and The Wizard of Oz.
What about films like Casablanca and To Have and Have Not?
Best in Show? Raising Arizona?
African Queen?

Yes, so many more, even if you limit it to American movies!
